Overview

Thank you for your interest in applying for an elective at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, United Arab Emirates University. To abide by the updated rules and regulations of the UAE National Security Council all candidates for employment or training within UAE government will have to undergo Criminal Investigation Department (CID) clearance procedures. Similar to our own students, your official documents now will be processed through Abu Dhabi healthcare provider authority, SEHA. Your elective application at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences is dependent upon satisfactory CID clearance status. CID processing usually varies from 1 month to 3 months.

Your application will follow the path as shown below:

  1. The application with all required documents must reach our office 9 months prior to your proposed elective.
  2. The chair of the respective department will review your application.
  3. If the application was approved by the department, your official papers will be sent for CID clearance processing.
  4. Once CID processing is complete you will be notified by the CMHS Medical Education Department about the final response.

We offer a very limited number of rotations in the major clinical disciplines. Obstetrics and Gynecology is mainly limited to female students because of patient preference. Each rotation has a preceptor who is responsible for planning the student curriculum for the department. Many rotations offer the flexibility to meet the individual needs of each student. The varied patient population offers every student a unique learning experience and we will attempt to make your experience both educational and enjoyable.
